The subject of tactician Xavi’s place on the bench at Barcelona has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines in a major way over the course of recent days.

This comes after reports spread like wildfire, pointing towards the 44-year-old preparing to go back on his decision to step down from his post in the summer.

Owing to the unwavering backing of president Joan Laporta and vice president Rafa Yuste, as well as his side’s upturn in form over recent months, it was assured that Xavi was taking into serious consideration seeing out the final year of his contract.

In turn, it will no doubt come as nothing short of a shock to those of a Blaugrana persuasion to hear that, on Wednesday, their side’s headmaster is now being heavily tipped to depart once more.

As per a report from Barca insider Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, a ‘radical turn’ has been noted in the boardroom at the Camp Nou.

Whilst Xavi was previously said to have maintained the backing of the vast majority of Barca’s most important directorial figures, this, all of a sudden, no longer appears to be the case:

‘The balance has begun to tip in the management leadership towards a replacement in the position of coach’, it is confirmed.

A decisive meeting will soon be held between Xavi and Joan Laporta, during which a definitive agreement regarding the club’s plans moving forward will be reached.

But, as things stand, a change on the bench at Barcelona is looking more and more likely…
