THE MATCH
Angers' victory was much deserved as former OL assistant coach Gérald Baticle won the tactical battle, with the home team committed and dangerous in their 3-4-1-2 formation. Angers were sharper from the off and Anthony Lopes made a fine save from Mohamed-Ali Cho's cross-shot (10') before Paul Bernardoni (13') got in behind a Moussa Dembélé volley at the other end.
The hosts took the lead when Lopes missed Jimmy Cabot's low cross and Sofiane Boufal steered the ball in from a tight angle (20') to already equal his Ligue 1 goal tally from last season. Cho (31') had another attempt saved but OL could have equalised through former Angers star Karl Toko Ekambi (45').
Angelo Fulgini (47'), forming a lively front trio with Boufal and Cho, slid a shot wide before Angers doubled their advantage when Marcelo scored an own goal (54') under pressure from Cho. Maxwel Cornet (66') was sent off for a second yellow card to end OL's hopes.
Azzedine Ounahi, signed from third-tier Avranches, enjoyed a dream debut. The midfielder hit the post (76') and then scored (77') as Angers joined Paris Saint-Germain on two wins from two, going ahead of the capital club at the top on goal difference. Peter Bosz's Lyon, like Monaco and Lille, have only one point from their opening two fixtures.
THE PLAYER: Mohamed-Ali Cho
The former Everton player turned out for England at Under-16 level before switching to France for the Under-17s. Only 17, Cho is a special talent and his pace and ambition stretched OL. Marcelo could have been sent off for a horrific first-half challenge on the attacker and Cornet's second yellow was for a foul on Cho. But for Lopes making two good saves, Cho would have had his first Ligue 1 goal.
THE STAT: 5
Angers brought to an end a five-match losing run against their opponents as Gérald Baticle became the first Angers coach to win his first two Ligue 1 games.
