Ángel Zaldívar has said he is ready to return to Chivas to battle for a starting place as striker with the Flock.

The 26-year-old has spent the last 18 months away from Guadalajara on loan.

He was with Monterrey for all of 2019 and is currently plying his trade at Puebla, or at least he would be had the Covid-19 shutdown not stopped the Liga MX Clausura in its tracks back in March.

The striker’s fate is not in his own hands, however, as it is up to the hierarchy at Chivas whether he returns to Estadio Akron.

If he gets the call, Zaldívar would relish the chance to resume donning the colours of his hometown club again.

“You always come to a team with the hope of winning titles, of scoring goals, of being the scorer, of playing every game, demonstrating all my qualities,” he told RÉCORD.

“Of course, if I come back I want Chivas’ golden age to be repeated, to be the protagonist, to be a team scorer. I have the mentality and the focus.”

The Mexico international was a key member of the Chivas side that claimed the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League under the guidance of manager Matías Almeyda.

But that team broke apart after Almeyda’s acrimonious departure, and Zaldívar found himself shipped out to Rayados.

Even if Los Rojiblancos decide to bring Zaldívar back into the fold, he is far from guaranteed a starting spot, and will have to compete with attackers José Juan Macías, Alexis Vega, Ronaldo Cisneros and Oribe Peralta for minutes.
