Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette (31) shows ambition as Olympique Lyonnais defeated relegation-battling outfit Troyes this Saturday, sealing a third unbeaten game on the bounce. The Laurent Blanc-led side will try to carry on on Wednesday for an exciting Coupe de France last 16 tie against Lille, having impressed in defeating Rennes on Saturday at Roazhon Park. Against Troyes, Lyon have controlled proceedings and went two goals up thanks to promising youth products Bradley Barcola (20) and Rayan Cherki (19). Lacazette put the finishing touch with a top-corner screamer after Rony Lopes (27) halved the deficit.

Lacazette hope there’s more to come as OL shows signs of minor improvement. “We’re better. We have a better control of the game”, claims the former Arsenal forward in a press conference that L’Equipe attended. “Sometimes, all we need is just a goal.” With Lyon only ninth in the standings, a Coupe de France win may be the only way for Les Gones to qualify for the Europa League next season. “We have to go step by step“, underlines Lacazette. The 31-year-old is poised to play his 300th game with Lyon on Wednesday and spoke of his pride to have played that many games with his formative club. With 149 goals, Lacazette is the third-best goalscorer in Lyon’s history and is expected to overtake Bernard Lacombe’s 153 sooner rather than later. The Lyon-born player has already scored sixteen goals in all competitions with OL this season.
