A key member of the defensive setup at La Liga outfit Athletic Club has today committed his long-term future to the club.
The player in question? Aitor Paredes.
Paredes, for his part, has continued to play a pivotal role for Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic throughout the season to date.
All told, across the club’s 29 league outings, the stopper has featured in all but two, featuring from the off on 24 occasions.
And Paredes’ contributions have proven central to both the Basque giants’ push for a Champions League berth, and run to the finale of the Copa del Rey.
In turn, word stemming from the media over the last couple of weeks, pointing towards the board at San Mamés ramping up efforts to tie the 23-year-old down for the long-term, had come as little surprise.
And, as alluded to above, on Thursday, such endeavours have borne fruit.
As per an official announcement across the club’s website and social media platforms, Paredes has put pen to paper on a new contract with Athletic, all the way through the summer of 2029.
The Spaniard, a youth product of the Leones, was due to see his previous terms come to a close in a little over 12 months’ time, but has today put to bed any and all remaining speculation surrounding his future.
