The South Wales side have opened talks with the Hornets to take the 22-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the current campaign, with the Portuguese player currently at Fulham.

Quina has been frozen out at Craven Cottage since October though and Watford look set to recall him to send him elsewhere for the second half of the campaign.

Quiz: Did any of these 25 ex-Swansea City players ever get a red card during their time at the club?

Leon Britton?

Yes No

Would he be a good addition to Russell Martin’s squad though? We asked the FLW team for their thoughts.

Alfie Burns

It’s not quite happened for Quina at either Watford or Fulham in the last couple of years, but that needs perspective.

Watford is a hard club to settle at given their constant changes in the dugout, whilst they were also fighting at the sharp end of the Championship last season.

Fulham are doing the same this campaign and breaking into a very strong squad is a difficult task for anyone.

So, stepping down to mid-table level with Swansea could prove to be decent for Quina.

He will be offered opportunities to play in a side that looks to have a lot of possession, with Martin’s style of football looking like it would suit the 22-year-old.

Swansea are building towards something rather than playing in the here and now. That’s something that will also suit Quina at this stage of his career.

As I mentioned, he has felt a bit lost at the top of the Championship, so a more reserved project will fit.

Ned Holmes

This could be a good signing for the Swans as Russell Martin looks to add some more depth to his squad ahead of the end of the January window.

We haven’t seen much of Quina during his loan spell at Fulham but that should mean that the 21-year-old will be hungry to impress in the second half of the campaign – something that Swansea can benefit from.

The midfielder would bring some real energy to the centre of the park while he also seems to have the technical ability that should mean he fits in well under Martin.

It remains to be seen how big of a role he will play but in this season more than ever squad depth is important, so this looks a smart bit of late-window business.

Charlie Gregory

I think that Quina could be a great signing for Swansea, as he would likely adapt quickly to the style of play that Russell Martin wants from his team.

A loan deal would also get him more game-time – something he will no doubt want – and could aid the Swans in climbing up the Championship table as soon as possible.

Quina is relatively experienced at second tier level, something which can aid the Welsh outfit, and has also played in the Premier League.

Even though he has only three starts in the top flight, he has still been exposed to a high level of football and could contribute plenty for the Swans.

I think it is a smart move by Martin – and could be a great boost to the squad.
