We looked at two players who could follow goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell out of Birmingham City before the end of the transfer window.

Birmingham City are preparing for life back in the Championship following their promotion from League One.

Birmingham stormed to the League One title last season after accumulating a total of 111 points, which set a new EFL record, but returning to the Championship is far from the extent of their ambitions, with owner Tom Wagner revealing that the club are targeting back-to-back promotions next season.

The Blues are reportedly set to be one of the biggest spenders outside the Premier League this summer, and it has been a busy start to the transfer window for the West Midlands outfit, with James Beadle, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Tommy Doyle, Kanya Fujimoto, Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi arriving at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

Birmingham have also sold three players so far this summer in Emmanuel Longelo, Brandon Khela and Ayumu Yokoyama, and goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell could be next to head out of the exit door, with FLW exclusively revealing on Tuesday that League One side Blackpool are interested in the Northern Ireland international.

In another FLW exclusive earlier this month, we reported that Blues manager Chris Davies omitted a host of players from the club's pre-season trip to Portugal, including Dion Sanderson, Alfons Sampstead, Emil Hansson and Tyler Roberts, which would seem to confirm that they will be moving on this summer.

However, with Davies still having a relatively bloated squad, he may need to trim it even further before the end of the transfer window, and we looked at two Birmingham players who could depart over the coming months.

Krystian Bielik

After two previous loan spells with the club, Bielik joined Birmingham on a permanent basis in the summer of 2023, and he was one of few players to emerge with any credit from their disastrous relegation season in the 2023-24 campaign.

Many expected Bielik to depart St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after relegation, but in what looked like a big coup for the club, the 27-year-old signed a new three-year contract last summer, and he was subsequently handed the captain's armband by Davies.

Bielik was a regular for the Blues in the first half of last season, but his game time became increasingly limited over the course of the campaign, and he made just three league starts following the turn of the year as Davies stuck with the centre-back pairing of Christoph Klarer and Rangers loanee Ben Davies.

With Davies now back at Ibrox and no guarantee that Birmingham will be able to secure his return this summer, Bielik could be given another chance to impress next season, but after new signing Phil Neumann linked up with the club having signed a pre-contract agreement in January, he is likely to remain down the pecking order.

Given his clear leadership qualities, Davies may be keen to keep Bielik around in the dressing room to help his side navigate their return to the Championship, but according to Capology, the defender is estimated to be the Blues' second-highest earner on £20,000-a-week, so the club may look to offload him.

Lyndon Dykes

While he was not the club's most high-profile addition of the summer, eyebrows were certainly raised when Birmingham signed striker Lyndon Dykes from Queens Park Rangers last summer for a fee of £1 million.

Dykes had scored seven goals for QPR in the Championship the previous season, so he was expected to thrive after dropping down to League One, but it did not quite work out that way as he struggled to establish himself in the Blues' starting line-up.

The 29-year-old scored five goals in 32 appearances for Birmingham last season, with just one of those strikes coming in the league, and he only started 12 games in total in all competitions, albeit he did miss the final two months of the campaign with a calf injury.

If Dykes did not feature much in League One, it seems highly unlikely he will be a regular in the Championship next season, and the arrival of Furuhashi, who joined the Blues from Rennes in a deal worth up to £10 million earlier this month, is likely to restrict his minutes even further, so his departure this summer could be the right option for all parties.
