In a deeply hurting turn of events, Sergio Aguero has been forced into early retirement from football as per Gerard Romero. The decision comes more than a fortnight after the news first broke through. Aguero was taken off vs Deportivo Alaves with chest pain, which was confirmed to be a cardiac issue.

Post that, however, Aguero confirmed on his Twitch stream that he had not taken a decision yet, and was waiting for a medical confirmation about the same.

Today, Romero reports that the decision has been taken, and the announcement could come next week through a press conference.

It is deeply saddening that the news has broken through today, ahead of Xavi’s first game as Barcelona manager, against derby rivals Espanyol no less.

Aguero’s debut for Barcelona was delayed by three months after he picked up an injury in training. However, he was able to score for the garnet and blue — against Real Madrid in the 2-1 loss on 24th October.

We at Barça Universal are with Kun during this turbulent time in his life, and wish him the best.
