Fresh from Thursday’s 4-0 win over Juventus in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, FC Bayern Women are again in action at the Campus as they begin the second half of the Google Pixel Bundesliga season at home to Turbine Potsdam on Sunday (kick-off: 2pm CET). Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game against the promoted side in our preview.

Latest news from Bayern

The Munich Frauen are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and DFB Cup, while they’re also on track in the Bundesliga. The defending champions come into the weekend in second place on the back of last week’s 2-0 win at Essen thanks to goals from Pernille Harder and Georgia Stanway. Things are very tight at the top of the table, though, with Bayern tied with Eintracht Frankfurt on 26 points, followed on 25 by Wolfsburg.

Bayern opened their title defence back in August with a 2-0 win in Potsdam thanks to Linda Sembrant’s brace. The odds of a repeat result and a good end to the year at home are good, given the Bavarians are unbeaten in their last 14 Bundesliga meetings with Potsdam since a 2-1 loss in Munich in 2016.

Sarah Zadrazil and her teammates want to hold onto all three points in their final home game of the year.

Opponent: Turbine Potsdam

Potsdam immediately bounced back from relegation to return to the Bundesliga this year, but they are currently bottom of the table after 11 games with just one point and only a single goal scored. The point came in November with a goalless draw against Jena; their goal followed two weeks later in the 3-1 loss at Wolfsburg. Last time out Turbine were beaten 1-0 by Köln. They also put up a fight in the DFB Cup prior to the international break but were edge by the same scoreline against Bayer Leverkusen.

Team news

Head coach Alexander Straus is still without Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Mala Grohs (illness) for this game. Magou Doucouré is also ill and therefore unavailable.

Alexander Straus is looking for a win to start the second half of the campaign.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “We’ve produced some very good performances so far this season in the Champions League. We now need to do exactly the same in the league and against opponents like Potsdam. It’s about performing again on Sunday.”

Klara Bühl: “We need to take that flow with us, hold onto all the good moments from the Champions League game and then play just like that again on Sunday. That should get us off to a winning start in the second half of the season.”
