Nacho’s father, Chema Fernandez, seemed puzzled not long ago about his son’s situation with the national team, especially with the Euro 2024 approaching.

Even as of today, there has been a bit of uncertainty about who will fill the centre-back positions for Spain, and Nacho’s name has been part of that discussion.

Even though the defender led a successful Madrid team, some wondered why he did not make it to the World Cup squad as well.

Word has it that De la Fuente has a list of 57 potential players for the Euros, but only 26 will make the final cut.

The coach has let the players know they still have a shot at being included and encouraged them to give it their all in these final days of the domestic league.

The big announcement is coming in about 12 days, right after the league ends and just before the Champions League final.

De la Fuente will announce the 26 players he has chosen. There has been some chatter about possibly selecting more players initially and then whittling down the list, but it seems De la Fuente is set on sticking with 26 from the get-go.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Real Madrid have several players in contention, like Dani Carvajal, Nacho, and Joselu. They all stand a good chance of making the cut.

As for Nacho, he is expected to complete the list of centre-backs for Spain that would also comprise Pau Cubarsi, Robin Le Normand and Aymeric Laporte.
