Real Madrid were not happy at RFEF’s decision to hand them the league trophy against Granada on May 11th at Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes.

Real Madrid did not want to celebrate the title in an away stadium, especially knowing Granada might get relegated on the same day.

As a result, the club requested REFE for a change of plans, in regard to the trophy-handing ceremony, leading many to believe that the club might receive the trophy on May 14 against Alaves.

RFEF to hand La Liga trophy at Valdebebas

But in a recent development, MARCA reports that RFEF has decided to hand Real Madrid the league trophy this Sunday, May 12.

The trophy will be handed at the Valdebebas, Real Madrid’s training facility. The trophy will be given at around 9:30 in the morning.

The event will be held behind closed doors and the person in charge of delivering it will be the president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha.

This latest decision could help Real Madrid avoid making any changes to their usual trophy-celebration plans at Cibeles on Sunday.

Indeed, if RFEF had delayed the trophy ceremony to May 14 against Alaves, the club would have had to postpone plans to celebrate the league title at the Cibeles fountain.

Real Madrid’s celebration plans

Once the trophy is handed over in the morning, Real Madrid players are expected to immediately Valdebebas at 11 AM and head for the Almudena Cathedral.

Real Madrid players are expected to parade across the Almudena Cathedral, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City hall, before heading to the Cibeles fountain.

The celebrations will conclude at Cibeles, with Real Madrid planning a fan-player gathering, among other things.

In the meantime, though, Real Madrid players will be focused on their upcoming task at hand as they take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of the UCL semifinal on Wednesday.
