Portsmouth held Southampton to a goalless draw at St Mary’s Stadium to move three points above the Barclays Women’s Championship relegation place.
Emma Jones saw her close-range effort saved by Saints goalkeeper Fran Stenson, at the other end Molly Pike was through one-on-one with Pompey custodian Hannah Poulter but Annie Rolf recovered to make a fine challenge.
Sophie Quirk was denied by Stenson, who also tipped a Meg Hornby shot onto the bar and over.

Southampton’s Georgia Mullett went close and Rachel Rowe forced a good stop from Poulter to make a smart save, before Mullett had a goal ruled out for offside.
Stenson thwarted Jones again and with a couple of minutes to go prevented Quirk from getting a late breakthrough.
Pompey are now three games unbeaten and two points ahead of Blackburn again after their own draw earlier today, but have played two games more than both Rovers and bottom side Sheffield United.
