Liverpool getting increasingly pessimistic about Real Madrid target’s renewal

With the serious injury suffered by Dani Carvajal, there is a clear area of weakness in this Real Madrid squad. With the Spaniard out for the rest of the season with his serious injury, there is only Lucas Vazquez left to play on the right flank.

While Eder Militao can also play at this position, the lack of options in the middle of the defence means Ancelotti might also not be able to count on the Brazilian for this position.

In such a context, the Merengue club is looking to get new players, for the right-back, centre-back, and central midfield positions, but a final decision is yet to be made in this regard.

The most prominent target for Real Madrid for the right-back position is the Liverpool fullback, Trent Alexander Arnold, whose contract with the Reds ends at the end of this season.

However, Los Blancos might need reinforcements, especially for the right-back position as soon as possible, and according to a report from MARCA, the possibility of making a signing in January is increasing every day.

Meanwhile, the report also mentions that Liverpool seemingly understand that the Englishman is not going to renew his contract with them, and are thus open to negotiating for his sale in the coming winter window.

Real Madrid are yet to make a decision on this matter and have not yet made any contacts with Liverpool. The upcoming few matches will determine whether the Merengues continue to have confidence in the resources they already have at their disposal, or they go into the market to sign another option, with Alexander Arnold looking like the most likely candidate.

Thus, Real Madrid can make a winter acquisition this January after not having bought any player in the winter market for the last five years, with Reinier Jesus being the last one to join the Merengues in January 2020.
