Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel believes Nicolas Jackson has big potential and insisted he never meant to disrespect the striker.
Having impressed in his debut season with 14 league goals Jackson struggled last season and could only manage ten, although he did score an important goal in the Conference League final.
The 23-year-old started the season really well but dropped off around Christmas and never really discovered his promising early season form.
Chelsea suffered from not having an alternative for Jackson last season but have moved fast to address that issue this summer.
The Blues have signed Liam Delap from Ipswich and the 22-year-old will add a much needed different dimension to the attack.
Chelsea continue to be linked with Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and questions have started to be asked about Jackson’s future.

Jackson has been linked with a shock move to Manchester United, but it’s clear he’s an important part of the squad and Maresca is a big fan.
Mikel, who’s not been shy of criticising Jackson in the past believes he’s got a lot of potential and insisted he never meant to be disrespectful with past comments.
“Nicolas has big potential and I never intended to disrespect him with previous comments,” he told Give Me Sport.
“You can see there is a player there. He’s good on the ball, quick and can run in behind. And he stretches defenders, which gives Cole Palmer more space. Now it’s just about finishing more chances.”
It’s clear the Blues are looking to add a versatile forward option to the squad and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus is a name that’s been mentioned.

Chelsea have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Kudus and the Ghana international has an £85m clause active in his contract for Premier League clubs.
Kudus didn’t have the best season and only managed five goals and three assists in 32 Premier League appearances, and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will intensify their interest.
