The sixth and final matchday of the UEFA Youth League is just ahead of us. On Tuesday (10 December), Daniel Beichler's boys are to face their rivals from Paris Saint-Germain from 15:30 CET. There is no big pressure to land a result, with our Young Bulls already sure of their spot in the knockout stages. The top six is now the target as that would give us an easier opponent - on paper - in February.
The French side have not found the Youth League too simple this season but wins against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have maintained their chance of finishing in the top 22 at the end of the league stage, which would keep them in the competition next year. The sensational 5-2 win against Bayern gave a clear idea of just who we need to be wary of: Mahamadou Sangare leads Phillip Verhounig in the Youth League goalscorers list and hit a hat-trick against Bayern, while 16-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, who has made five Ligue 1 appearances for the first team, scored twice. Most of the PSG young hopefuls ply their trade in the Championnat National U19 youth league, where they are at the top of the table.
The draw for the last 32 will take place before Christmas, with the clashes for the first knockout round, which will be contested as a single tie on 11 or 12 February, to be drawn on 20 December.
We are facing a very talented team equipped with a lot of technique and speed. They made a difficult start to the Youth League season but have come good now - especially with their 5-2 win over Bayern. We will not play any different kind of football because we are playing PSG. It's all about playing our football at a high level and getting a high intensity and pressure on the ball, so that they can get the moments they enjoy using their speed. It's a very appealing final match for us, and we will get everything we can out of it. I am certain we will play really well and start the winter break with a good result!
