Javier Tebas and La Liga have been in a constant effort to shift a few games of the league overseas in recent years but have always found hurdles to be in their way on that front.
Ahead of the new season, the league president has already begun working on that front and has insisted on shifting the game between Barcelona and Villarreal to the United States of America.
Real Madrid, however, came out against such a decision earlier today and claimed that the integrity of the competition would be lost if venues were selectively shifted for certain clubs.
Real Madrid’s letter is only the latest on a long list of opposition Tebas currently faces for his dream project. Other parties against him include Miguel Angel Galan (president of CENAFE coaches’ school) and even the players’ association.
Los Blancos’ letter to the CSD, in essence, requests the Higher Sports Council to reject the proposal to shift games outside the country. What will come of it, however, remains unclear as AS report that the topic is currently a grey area.

As per the Spanish outlet, government sources recently confirmed that the CSD does not need to authorise games being played outside the country and that it is outside their jurisdiction. La Liga’s decision, thus, is not under their control.
According to the aforementioned government sources, CSD’s approval is only required for international games taking place in Spain and not vice versa.
The counterargument, as portrayed by Angel Galan, however, is that the government’s approval is necessary as the CSD once sent a letter to the Anti-Corruption prosecutor’s office stating that they had not authorised the Spanish Super Cup being conducted abroad.
That, needless to say, backs Real Madrid’s claim as well that the CSD have a say in league games being played abroad. The Higher Council, however, continue to insist that even on that occasion they merely stated that they had not granted authorisation because they did not have to.
It now remains to be seen what comes of the situation and how the grey area in the legislation is interpreted. Real Madrid’s pressure on the CSD, needless to say, will force a more thorough and clean interpretation.
