Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side are fully-focused on winning their next fixture at Manchester City.

The Gunners are out of the Barclays Women’s Super League’s title race with two games to go. The remaining results will simply confirm whether Arsenal will end the campaign in second or third position.

With the slim chance of climbing from third to second still on the agenda, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that his side go to Manchester City this weekend only interested in picking up maximum points.

“Our mindset this weekend is only to win,” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Let’s be honest, one point gives us absolutely nothing in regard to where we are in the league table. The only thing that can potentially give us something is to win, so that’s our aim and that’s what we’re going to do our very best to do.”

Finishing higher in the league table would give Arsenal a minor advantage going into next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, however, Eidevall said that The Gunners are taking things game-by-game.

He said “Every position matters in the league. If we could finish second, that’s better than finishing third, so that’s why I think it’s so important to keep our focus on our game and play them game-by-game.

“First and foremost, we have a really difficult task in front of us in trying to win away against Manchester City. If we can do that, then we just need to put our focus on Brighton and then we have to see what Chelsea does and see where we end up in the league.”

Manchester City are battling Chelsea for the Barclays Women’s Super League title but Eidevall says that he is paying no attention to that particular tussle.

He said “It doesn’t matter to me. All that matters to me is that Arsenal perform really well and make the best result possible.

“As I said after the Everton game, I always think that everyone has an obligation to the league and to the fairness of the competition to do your very best in every game. We intend to do so, but not for anyone else, for us.”

Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 2.15pm on Sunday afternoon.
