Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the clear message he sent to his players in the Premier League title run-in and ahead of the final day this season.

The Premier League champions come into the final day of the ongoing season with their fate in the title race very clear; win against West Ham and they will defeat Arsenal to a second successive top-flight crown.

Manchester City are on the verge of history in the process too, knowing that another Premier League title win would be their fourth successive – a feat never before achieved in the history of the competition.

It is also the first of two ‘cup finals’ for Manchester City in successive weekends, with the Premier League finale followed up by the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium against cross-town rivals Manchester United.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Pep Guardiola has revealed the clear message he gave to his Manchester City players during the final run-in towards the Premier League crown this season with regards to Arsenal and Liverpool.

“What I said to the players, in the last two or three games that the chances in one weekend – Aston Villa winning in the Emirates against Arsenal, Crystal Palace in Liverpool – isn’t going to happen again,” Guardiola explained.

“They give us that certain moment, and the destiny is in our hands. If you are waiting that they are going to drop (points) to be champions, then you are wrong. If you are thinking Arsenal is going to lose or drop points in Old Trafford, forget about it. Forget about it!”

Guardiola continued by also making a clear prediction ahead of Sunday afternoon’s business, as he said, “If you are thinking that Everton is going to do something (on Sunday against Arsenal), forget about it. The chance, they give us. Expected it maybe earlier, they give us. Now, it’s our point!”

Manchester City have still had to win their own matches since Arsenal and Liverpool’s remarkable defeats on the same weekend against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively, and Pep Guardiola was keen to point that out.

“And we did it; we did it in Crystal Palace, we did it against Wolves, or we did it against Fulham and Spurs, and we have the last,” he said. “They know it’s win or win, otherwise Arsenal will be Champions. It’s not more complicated than that.”

Manchester City are currently on an unbeaten streak that stretches back to mid-December, with their last defeat in the Premier League coming at the hands of Aston Villa in a drab performance at Villa Park.
