Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has asked to leave the club.

Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena over the past few weeks with rumours circulating that the Poland international could join Barcelona.

And now it’s been revealed by the Bayern director that Lewandowski has stated his intention to leave the club this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salihamidžić said : “I spoke to Lewa. During the conversation he informed me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club.”

Lewandowski is in the starting XI for Bayern’s Bundesliga clash with Wolfsburg this afternoon, which could well turn out to be his very last appearance for the Bavarians.

During his eight years at Bayern, Lewandowski has scored a remarkable 237 Bundesliga goals.
