Robert Lewandowski left FC Bayern for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022 after eight very successful years. The Pole still follows the action in Munich and is not surprised that Bayern have had a difficult season.

In an interview with Sport BILD, Lewandowski explained that he sensed at the end of his time at FC Bayern that a change was needed so that the German record champions could celebrate great success again.

The 2021 FIFA World Player of the Year recommends that Bayern make a change to the squad: „I realised two years ago that this team would have to be revamped at some point, that it needed a shake-up. The team has been together for a very long time. Perhaps it’s necessary to give it new impetus now. But the big challenge is to keep the same mentality,“ emphasised the Polish international.

Bayern upheaval could last a „long time“

However, the centre-forward explained that a change can also change a structure and that successes can also fail to materialise: „A change is not so easy to implement. Sometimes there is a moment when a decision is made: Fresh blood is needed. But this changes the mentality, the balance. During a change, you can’t expect things to continue as before with victories and titles. This is a project that lasts a long time,“ warned the 35-year-old.

One thing is clear: FC Bayern will make personnel additions in the summer. According to rumours, the Munich club is even prepared to spend up to 200 million euros on new players.
