Whereas German national team head coach Christian Wück found himself exhausted after Saturday night’s grueling quarterfinal win in the UEFA Women’s Euros, DFB professionals Franziska Kett and Elisa Senß were still full of energy when speaking in the mixed zone. Kett spoke on the pressures of starting just her second match in her fourth overall cap. Senß praised the hero of the penalty shootout, keeper Ann-Kathrin Berger.
“After the [13th-minute] red card, one saw that we gave everything,” Kett – very much a surprise starter in Wück’s XI – said. “We didn’t have anything left to lose. We showed that every minute and we won the match because everyone gave 100 percent.
“Of course I was very nervous as it was only my fourth cap,” Kett continued. “but I entered with the attitude that I had nothing to lose. I left it all on the pitch and I think the French were aggravated by me.”
“Of course, the ‘penalty-killer’,” Senß answered when asked about Berger. “It’s hard to beat her on penalties in training. She proved it again. She’s my ‘girl of the match’. I’m so proud and happy that we have her.
“[The red card] Had the effect that we all knew that we all had to band together,” Senß continued. “We had to redouble our efforts in every sense. It worked out super well. We threw everything at it. I’m so proud that we solved it together.“
