James Ward-Prowse capped off a strange season for him personally with a goal and win at Ipswich.
The former Southampton captain was on hand to fire our Hammers into a lead following a lovely lay off from Jarrod Bowen, who capitalised on a mistake from the hosts, which JWP fired in efficiently.
Although many at West Ham are facing an uncertain future with Graham Potter wielding the axe at present, Ward-Prowse is looking forward to a rest this summer and focus on next season.
“It’s been a bit of an up and down season, with a lot of challenges in many ways,” the midfielder told the clubs media team, as reported by the Official Website.
“So, to finish with a goal is really nice. It was important today that we put in the right performance, and helped the guys leaving go away happy, as well as the supporters who have followed us brilliantly all season.
“We wanted to go away with something, and now I think we can go away and enjoy the summer, before coming back ready for next year.”
Ward-Prowse admitted that it wasn’t the most beautiful of displays over Ipswich, however it was a job well done overall and one that sees the club finish in 14th and above Spurs who occupied 17th place.
“Sometimes we can win ugly, but today I think we were in control. They had their chances and got back in the game, but we had to do a professional job.
“Overall, I think we performed well, and we got the result we wanted. Like I said, now it’s about taking this into the summer, coming back on a positive and then going again.”
