Huddersfield Town have agreed their second signing of the summer transfer window

Lee Grant has explained why Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of Marcus Harness.

The Terriers have agreed a three-year deal with the 29-year-old ahead of his exit from Ipswich Town at the end of the month.

He will join the League One side in July ahead of the new campaign, with the Yorkshire outfit eyeing a push for promotion to the Championship.

Grant was appointed as manager at the end of May, taking on his first managerial role in his coaching career.

The arrival of Harness will bolster his team’s forward options, as Huddersfield look to improve on their disappointing 10th place finish in the table from last season.

Grant has expressed his delight with agreeing a deal to bring Harness into the team for next season, with the player joining alongside Ryan Ledson.

The former Ipswich coach has revealed that the forward turned down other offers to move to Huddersfield, highlighting his experience, hard work and sacrifice as key traits that will make him a valuable addition to the squad.

“I’m delighted to add Marcus to the squad this early in the summer and keep our momentum building,” said Grant, via the club’s official website.

“Opening the window with two players with such quality and experience and a genuine desire for success sets a wonderful tone for the season ahead.

“Obviously as someone who I have had the opportunity to work with previously, I’m confident Marcus has all of the qualities both personally and professionally that the supporters will be excited to see.

“We are delighted he has chosen us ahead of significant interest from clubs in the division above, which speaks to his commitment towards what we are trying to achieve this season.

Marcus Harness’ Ipswich tenure

Harness joined Ipswich in the 2022 summer transfer window, with Kieran McKenna’s side aiming for promotion to the Championship.

The forward played 40 times in League One that season, including 21 starts, contributing six goals and two assists.

McKenna’s team finished second in the table, earning promotion with 98 points, coming just two points behind champions Plymouth Argyle.

He continued to be a regular presence in the team as they fought for a top two finish in the second tier in the following season.

Harness featured 34 times in the Championship, albeit starting just seven times, scoring four goals as Ipswich earned promotion to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old fell down the pecking order at Portman Road ahead of their top flight campaign, leading to a loan move to Derby County in which he featured 41 times in the league.
