Manchester City supporters have been handed a fresh update by Pep Guardiola over his future at the Etihad Stadium as a major decision continues to loom.

The 53-year-old continues to find himself in somewhat of a limbo as he weighs up the biggest decision of his Manchester City career to date, with his current contractual agreement expiring at the end of the season.

Having last extended his Etihad Stadium contract during the November international break of 2022, some within the club are wondering whether a final decision from the manager will come at the exact same time this season.

As such, questions are only intensifying from the media directed towards Guardiola with regards to what to expect from Manchester City’s greatest-ever manager, and whether there is an intention to look elsewhere for potential replacements any time soon.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola reiterated that the subject of his Manchester City future is not something he is willing to discuss openly, but that conversations are ongoing between himself and relevant officials at the Etihad Stadium.

“I’ve said many times, I’m not going talk about this subject,” Guardiola told the media.

“When it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen,” he continued. “We are in touch regularly, and what is going to happen is going to happen, always for the benefit of the club.”

For now, Manchester City’s intentions will likely be solely focussed on trying to keep Guardiola as their first-team manager for as long as possible, but club officials will no doubt be monitoring the successes of potential replacements across Europe.

It is widely expected that the next City manager will be of a similar mould to Guardiola, and that their football philosophy and vision will align itself to the strong foundations that have been put in place over the last nine seasons so far.

As such, supporters expect City to be drawn towards the likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Girona’s Míchel, with incoming Director of Football Hugo Viana expected to play a key role in decided the next man for the top job at the club.
