Newcastle United saw an improved second bid totalling £55m for Jørgen Strand Larsen turned down by Wolves late on Tuesday night.
That second offer was a £5m step up from the initial £50m offered on Monday.
That news of Newcastle’s second offer having been made an rejected, coincided with Wolves at home against West Ham in the League Cup.
With the Hammers trailing 2-1, Jorgen Strand Larsen came off the bench with 17 minutes to go and scored two very good goals to turn the tie around and send Wolves through to the next round.
Whilst obviously pleased with the win, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira wasn’t totally happy when interviewed after the game.
The Wolves Manager admitting that his star striker could indeed be heading to Newcastle United, with a third offer widely reported to be imminent.
Vitor Pereira asked whether striker Jorgen Strand Larsen will still be a Wolves player after the transfer window closes:
“I don’t know, I’m not the owner.
“Until now, Jorgen is our player, we’ll see what happens.
“Football is football and every player has a price, even (Lionel) Messi or Cristiano (Ronaldo).
“We’ll see what happens.
“I know him very well and he will never, never force a move.
“There are players I have known in this situation and they just ask me not to play but Jorgen Strand Larsen wants to play every time.
“Football is football and we must be ready for everything.”
The Mag report – Earlier this Wednesday (27 August 2025) morning:
Late Tuesday night saw Wolves reject an improved offer of £55m for Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Craig Hope at The Mail breaking the story.
Then the likes of Sky Sports and others also reporting on the increased and rejected bid.
The news came as Wolves came back to win 3-2 against West Ham in the League Cup, with two goals from…Jorgen Strand Larsen who came off the bench.
Monday had seen an offer totalling £50m bid and rejected by Wolves for their star striker.
Tuesday a £55m offer turned down.
Now the various media say that it is strongly expected that a third bid is imminent.
The man from The Mail says that whilst he expects a new offer to be made, he understands that Newcastle United will have a limit on their valuation of a player who Wolves paid £23m this summer for, a price that was fixed as part of a loan move for Jorgen Strand Larsen that was agreed in summer 2024.
The Wolves striker had 18 direct goal involvements (scored 14 and four assists) last season in the Premier League, playing 2,603 PL minutes, that worked out at a direct goal involvement every 144 minutes on average. A goal every 185 minutes on average.
Jan Aage Fjortoft is a former Norway international (and Middlesbrough player!) and strongly expects his countryman to join Newcastle United.
Now working in the media, Jan Aage Fjortoft was at St James’ Park on Monday night for the Newcastle v Liverpool match and had this to say last night:
“Bid of £55m rejected, but I have been told that Newcastle will be back again.
