Two players who were linked with moves away from Manchester City this summer were midfielders Nico and Nico O’Reilly. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that a host of Bundesliga and Premier League clubs had an interest in signing Nico O’Reilly. Darren Looney reported for Manchester City News that City were open to letting Spanish midfielder Nico leave this summer. But in truth letting Nico leave isn’t a move that made sense from a City point of view.

A new report indicates that Manchester City will not let Nico or Nico O’Reilly leave this summer. Both players will have important roles to play for Pep Guardiola’s side next season. There is little sense in City letting either player depart based on how important they will be during the 25/26 season.

Both players will have important roles to play for Pep Guardiola’s side next season.

Looking at where Nico and Nico O’Reilly fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season they will both have important roles to play. The hope is that Manchester City will progress deep into the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup next season. To do so, Pep Guardiola will need his whole squad at his disposal. That is one important role for both Nico and Nico O’Reilly to play.

But looking at where each player fits into the City squad shows how important they both will likely be. Spanish midfielder Nico will have a vital role to play in Manchester City’s midfield. Playing as an eight, Nico could make the role his own as next season progresses. Nico could take over from Ilkay Gundogan and Mateo Kovacic as the 25/26 season progresses. That does seemingly appear to be where he will fit into the City squad next season. With Rodri still working his way back to full fitness Nico will also have an important role to play in this regard. Based on Nico’s potential if he can take the next step as a City player next season he will be an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side next season.

Nico O’Reilly could once again step in at left-back next season. The young midfielder has proven to be a competent left-back for Pep Guardiola’s side. But he is an attacking midfielder by trade and if he can get minutes in midfield with his size, athleticism, and talent O’Reilly could become a vital weapon for Manchester City next season.

Nico and Nico O’Reilly will not be leaving Manchester City next season. Both players will be key contributors for Pep Guardiola’s side next season so there is no chance of either player leaving this summer.
