It has been known for some time that Manchester City’s top target to fill the right-back position is Newcastle United’s versatile full-back Tino Livramento. Fabrizio Romano reported in May that Livramento was City’s top target to slot in at right-back. Furthermore, Romano reported that signing Livramento from Newcastle would be no easy task. Livramento is a key player for Eddie Howe’s side and Newcastle do not want to sell Livramento.

Now a new report indicates that Newcastle United are set to offer Tino Livramento a lucrative contract extension. They are eager to end the speculation surrounding Livramento’s future. But if Livramento refuses to sign a new deal, it may play into Manchester City’s hands.

Manchester City may learn if their top target to fill the right-back position is available relatively soon.

All summer long Manchester City’s reported interest in signing Tino Livramento has bubbled away. Livramento’s quality as a player is well known and it’s clear why City are so eager to potentially sign him. It is also clear to see why Newcastle United are determined to keep the versatile full-back at the club. But Martin Hardy’s report does give an indication that an answer as to whether or not City stand any chance of signing Livramento this summer should come in a timely fashion.

If Tino Livramento signs a contract extension with Newcastle then Manchester City will have to move on. The versatile full-back will not leave Eddie Howe’s side this summer and his commitment to Newcastle will not be in doubt. It must be said that there is no indication that Livramento is seeking to leave the club as it stands currently. But if Livramento turns down Newcastle’s offer that may open the door for Manchester City to pounce. Although the door will only be slightly ajar for City to move. Livramento is still contracted with Newcastle until 2028. So Newcastle United aren’t under any pressure to sell him. But if there is a chance for Manchester City to sign him they may attempt to take that chance. But the entire situation could boil down to what Livramento decides to do in terms of signing a contract extension with Newcastle.

Manchester City should learn very quickly if their top target to fill the right-back position is available. It would seemingly all hinge on Tino Livramento’s decision in terms of signing a contract extension with Eddie Howe’s side. That’s the next update to monitor and what way Livramento’s decision falls could dictate whether or not City could move for the versatile full-back.
