Bild reports that the high salaries of Borussia Dortmund midfielders Julian Brandt and Marcel Sabitzer are making a sale difficult.
The two midfielders earn a combined €15m (Brandt €8m, Sabitzer €7m), and the duo are said to be behind Jobe Bellinhgam, Felix Nmecha and Pascal Groß in the pecking order for the three midfield positions in the team. On top of this, Dortmund are hoping to sign a replacement for Jamie Gittens.
Dortmund’s hope of a market emerging for either Brandt or Sabitzer is fading, as the salaries are preventing clubs from pursuing either of them. It has been decided that neither will have their contracts renewed, with Brandt’s expiring in 2026, while Sabitzer’s deal expires a year later in 2027.
Last season, the pair did not live up to their salary with their performances, as Dortmund scraped into the final Champions League spot.
Die Schwarzgelben also hope to sell Salih Özcan and Giovanni Reyna this summer.
