Recent reports have claimed that Manchester City have been chasing Inter’s Denzel Dumfries as a potential replacement for the departed Kyle Walker.
The Premier League giants are believed to be on the hunt for a new right-sided full-back this summer, despite having already welcomed three new outfield players into Pep Guardiola’s side prior to the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
Interest in a new right-back also comes as Manchester City finalised an exit for long-standing mainstay in the role Kyle Walker, who has joined Premier League newcomers Burnley in a deal that could hit as high as £5 million.
The tournament in the United States saw Pep Guardiola restricted to the use of Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis in the role as a direct result of uncertainty around Walker’s future and the failure to sign a new player in the position ahead of the competition.
Newcastle United and England Under-21 international Tino Livramento appears to be the most heavily-linked to the Etihad Stadium, but talks have not progressed largely due to differences over valuations on the player.
Recent reports in particular quarters of the media have staggeringly claimed that Manchester City have since initiated talks with Inter Milan over Denzel Dumfries, who is believed to have a €25 million release clause in his San Siro contract.
However, despite those reports over the course of the weekend, City Xtra currently understands that any concrete movements made by Manchester City towards the Inter right-back are certainly wide of the mark.
Etihad Stadium officials have also been linked with interest in Flamengo right-back Wesley, although nothing has since advanced amid the FIFA Club World Cup and all parties being involved in the tournament.
Now, the Brazilian has since turned down a proposal from Zenit St Petersburg amid a desire to join Serie A giants AS Roma, having also agreed personal terms with the Italian side, who remain in talks over a transfer fee and deal structure.
It remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola could intensify his search for a new right-back this summer, or whether the Catalan coach would be satisfied to enter into a new season with the aforementioned Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis as his main options.
