Sébastien Haller is set to return to FC Utrecht. Voetbal Zone and BILD reported on Thursday that Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement to terminate the Ivorian’s contract. The 31-year-old had one year remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga giants.
With an annual salary reportedly estimated at 10 million euros, Haller is one of the team’s top earners, and his exit should help the team’s budget. Given the limited prospect of playing time, both parties have decided to part ways.
According to BILD, Dortmund must pay Haller a severance payment of around two million euros. FC Utrecht won’t have to pay a transfer fee for the player, as he joins as a free agent after spending last season on loan at De Galgenwaard.
It’s expected that Haller will return to FC Utrecht. In the second half of last year, the striker scored four goals in 15 appearances. With this return, the former Frankfurt, West Ham and Ajax man will be hoping he can replicate the form of his first spell at the club. After joining from Auxerre, between 2014 and 2017, Haller scored a brilliant 51 goals in 98 games for Utrecht.
