Defensive reinforcements are needed at Manchester United in the summer and Ruben Amorim is ready to address that concern.

The defense has been poor throughout the season and the numbers show that.

The Red Devils have conceded 40 goals in the Premier League this season which is a poor record by their standards.

Along with the poor defensive record and the likelihood of both Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof leaving the club in the summer, United are looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer.

According to A Bola, United are lining up a move for Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.

Inacio has been on United’s radar for some time, with the club closely monitoring his development over the past few years.

Sporting are fully aware of the growing interest in the Portuguese star and have set a price tag of €45 million (£38m / $49m).

The report also reveals that Borussia Dortmund attempted to strike a deal in January but fell short of meeting Sporting’s demands.

Since rising through Sporting’s youth academy in 2020, Inacio has made over 200 appearances for the first team, including 32 this season, during which he has scored five goals and provided two assists.

With United’s recent focus on signing younger players with long-term potential, Inacio’s valuation aligns perfectly with their new recruitment approach.

The player has played under Amorim in the past and he would be ideal for the Portuguese manager’s playing style and formation.

Inacio can play as a left-sided centre-back in the back three which is something that United need at the moment.

The Red Devils hold a long term interest in the defender that goes past Amorim’s arrival at Man United.

The club have also identified Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo as one of the targets when it comes to defensive additions.
