Legendary Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini defended Lorenzo Pellegrini from recent criticism.

In an interview with Tag24, Giannini discussed Italy’s display at the Euros and focused in particular on the Giallorossi skipper who has been a regular starter for Luciano Spalletti’s team.

“I liked him against Croatia,” said Giannini. “He played better than he did against Spain but I still expect more because he’s got lots of quality at his disposal.”

“He’s someone important. Only at Roma can people criticize a player like him,” he added.

“Sure, during the year he may not always play his best in every match, but for Roma he is a crucial player,” Giannini continued.

“Roma? At the moment I fully trust in De Rossi. He’s the one certainty they have,” he concluded.
