According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Laporta met with Kvaratskhelia’s agent last Thursday, as Barcelona are prepared to battle the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Napoli themselves for the Georgian’s signature.

Barcelona are reportedly aware that a deal for Spain international Nico Williams is a difficult deal to pull off, and have therefore started to identify other ‘star’ players to bolster their attacking ranks.

Kvaratskhelia is currently under contract at the Stadio Maradona until the summer of 2027. However, he joined Napoli as a relative unknown, and is still on the same set of terms as he was when he originally signed, despite playing a major role in Napoli’s first Scudetto in over 30 years.

According to recent reports in Italy, Kvaratskhelia is currently earning around €1.5m per season, but Napoli are reportedly prepared to offer him a guaranteed sum of €5m per season, plus bonuses which would take his total earnings beyond the €6m claimed annually by Romelu Lukaku.

There are also reports that Kvaratskhelia and his entourage would like an €80m release clause included if the player is to sign a new deal with Napoli. The club, meanwhile, would prefer a release clause in the €100m region, according to Thursday’s update.
