With every passing day, FC Barcelona are getting closer to completing their first signing of the 2025 summer transfer window. The Blaugranes have already paid the release clause of the goalkeeper Joan Garcia, and yesterday, they were notified by RCD Espanyol about the reception of €25 million, and only the very last steps remain before this transfer will be completed.

There is no doubt that Garcia would be an exciting addition to Hansi Flick’s squad. However, his arrival will be a big blow for the club captain and current number 1 shirt holder, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German is set to be the third player in the pecking order, as Wojciech Szczesny would be the backup, and he cannot afford such a situation as the World Cup is arriving next year, and he will be looking to be the starter for Germany in this megaevent.

Galatasaray’s plan for ter Stegen

Luckily, there are some teams very interested in his signing, and one such team is Galatasaray. The Turks are looking to strengthen their team significantly this summer, but their decision-makers are carefully considering their moves to maximize the returns on their resources.

In such a context, Mundo Deportivo has revealed how they are looking to approach ter Stegen’s pursuit as they look to replace their long-term goalie, Fernando Muslera, who has already left the club.

Previously, it was claimed that Galatasaray have already reached an agreement with the German shot-stopper, but this is not the case, even though some contacts have taken place.

In these contacts, the Turks have made their move conditional on ter Stegen joining them for free, and thus have asked him to get his contract terminated with the Blaugrana club.

Ter Stegen’s salary too high

The main reason for this is that ter Stegen’s salary, €10 million, is too high for them, significantly higher than any other player in their squad. To convince the goalie to make a move, they are offering to pay half of his salary without any tax burden and guaranteeing a starting spot for him.

As things stand, Barcelona and ter Stegen are set to have several quite difficult rounds of negotiations. For now, the goalkeeper is intending on remaining at the Catalan club and fighting for a starting spot with Joan Garcia.
