Liverpool are essentially hosting a car boot sale, despite winning the Premier League this season.

Those that have a long-term place in the squad have been identified and those who look like they can be improved on are being put on the market for a potentially move elsewhere.

So far, we're looking at potentially both of our left-backs, there's interest in three of our centre-backs, one left-winger could go and at least one of the strikers will depart. That's a lot of change.

However, some of the club's assets are valued more than others and despite interest from other clubs, the plan is to keep them and unless a serious financial offer comes in for them to force a move.

In the case of Barcelona and Luis Diaz, the Catalonian club have made it clear that their transfer budget is not significant and so an appeal has been sent out for the Colombian to clarify his intention.

Liverpool and Barcelona are €20m apart in Luis Diaz talks

According to Sport, there is a chasm between the two clubs. Liverpool have an asking price for Diaz, who they don't really want to sell, and Barcelona are standing firm on what they're willing to offer.

The Reds are demanding €80m (£68m), while Barcelona won't pay more than €60m (£51m).

In the context that Diaz is 28 years old, Liverpool will stand to benefit from either amount, but the cost of replacing him would be significant, which is likely the sticking point. But it's also true that Barcelona are stuck between a rock and a hard place - La Liga's FFP regulations are a concern.

The report adds: "Barca also understands that during some negotiations they look for a way to agree and that everyone ends up satisfied. In the sense, the fixed [fee] could be accompanied by a series of variables that could increase Liverpool's income for Luis Diaz in the future.

"Everything is said to be done and the footballer, who is delighted with the possibility of dressing as Blaugrana, will be key when it comes to going with greater or lesser force to the negotiating table. Any gesture from the striker will be welcome and would allow Barca to squeeze a little more when defending their interests."

As such, we're not far away from a potential agreement. If Liverpool receive intel from the player that he is desperate to move, then a series of add-ons could be used to bridge the €20m financial gap.

Liverpool made a similar move with Florian Wirtz earlier this week, in a deal that was confirmed by the world's transfer journalists. £100m plus £16m in add-ons was agreed for the German to leave Leverkusen, which was £9m short of the initial asking price. Wirtz's decision to move would no doubt have helped speed up the negotiating process. Liverpool have got a bargain for him all in all.

Barcelona will be hoping for a similar situation to unfold for Diaz, with the Reds compromising their initial asking price in favour of agreeing a deal that benefits all parties while still earning a decent fee.

Whether the wiggle-room required to pull if off is given is a whole other story, and we'll have to keep an eye on negotiations over the coming weeks, but Barcelona's willingness to purchase Diaz will not be going unnoticed and Liverpool could be forced into sanctioning the move if the players insists.
