Erling Haaland is netting close to £1 million per week as part of his staggering new Manchester City contract, it has been revealed.
The world-renowned Manchester City striker shocked the world on Friday morning when he and the reigning Premier League champions announced that the 24-year-old had committed his future to the club for the next 10 years.
That contractual renewal means that should Erling Haaland complete the terms of his deal, he will be closing in on his 34th birthday at the point of his contract expiring, although that remains to be seen whether such an eventuality comes about.
Nevertheless, City have been keen to recognise the Norwegian international’s outstanding achievements for the club since arriving from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.
Alongside his remarkable goalscoring form that has broken records across English and European competition, Haaland and his teammates have won another two Premier League titles as well as a maiden UEFA Champions League crown.
Now, according to the information of MailSport’s Mike Keegan, Erling Haaland’s brand new 10-year Manchester City contract is the most lucrative handed to a player in the history of football, falling just short of £1 million-a-week.
It is reported that the new deal for the 24-year-old, which does not feature a release clause, is built on principles such as guaranteed add-ons, loyalty bonuses, and image rights payments, and features a pay rise.
In behind-the-scenes footage captured by Manchester City’s ever-present in-house media team, Erling Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta paid tribute to the club’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain for making everything thus far possible.
“I think you’re key for all of this, Txiki (Begiristain),” Pimenta told the City director, who is due to leave the club at the end of the ongoing season after 12 seasons in his role. “Because your conversations with Erling brought him here,” she continued.
Haaland himself is also aware of the situation he now finds himself in, admitting during a recent interview in light of his 10-year agreement with Manchester City, “It’s a bit crazy… And I also like a bit of crazy so it’s fine for me!”
