Bayern Munich have taken their interest in Luis Diaz up a notch, submitting a €52 million offer for the Colombian winger, according to BILD and confirmed by chief reporter Christian Falk. The Bundesliga giants, on the hunt for reinforcements out wide, are targeting the Liverpool man as a prime candidate — and it appears Diaz is fully on board with the move.
“True, FC Bayern should have submitted an offer to Liverpool for Luis Diaz,” wrote Falk on X.“Luis Díaz wants to join FC Bayern.”
This statement alone adds considerable weight to the growing narrative around Diaz’s Anfield future. Although Liverpool have initiated contract renewal talks with the 28-year-old, discussions have reportedly hit a wall.
It’s been widely reported that Diaz and his representatives are dissatisfied with Liverpool’s current offer, sparking interest from abroad. According to Colombian sources, his camp are “currently looking at securing a move away from Anfield unless their terms are met.”
This sense of dissatisfaction has turned rumour into reality. German journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that Diaz has now submitted a transfer request — a clear indication that the player is actively seeking an exit.
Bayern’s opening bid of €52 million falls significantly short of Liverpool’s reported €80 million valuation. While that figure may seem steep, Liverpool are under no obligation to sell. With Diaz contracted until 2027, they retain the leverage — but player desire can be a powerful force.
“This is reportedly 52 million euros – far below the 80 million euro transfer fee allegedly demanded by the ‘Reds,’” SPORT BILD reported.
That leaves Bayern with work to do. Unless they increase their bid, Liverpool are unlikely to entertain a deal — even if Diaz pushes for the move.
All eyes now turn to how Liverpool respond. Will they dig in and hold firm, or are they open to negotiations if the price is right? Either way, this saga is far from over — and promises to be a defining storyline of Liverpool’s summer.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this report is both frustrating and familiar. Another key player entering contract turmoil, and another European giant circling with intent. While Diaz may not have hit world-class levels every week, his work rate, directness and ability to create something from nothing have been vital.
The reported €52 million bid feels almost insulting given Diaz’s stature, age, and importance to the squad. If Bayern want him, they need to come back with a much stronger offer — closer to the €80 million Liverpool reportedly want. And even then, it begs the question: why are Liverpool in this position in the first place?
If there’s a genuine breakdown in talks, the club must reassess its strategy. Losing a prime-age attacker to contract mismanagement would sting — particularly when rebuilding under a new manager. Supporters will hope this is just the opening salvo in a longer negotiation, not the beginning of a farewell.
Whether Diaz stays or goes, Liverpool must act decisively. There’s no room for dragging this into late August. Resolve it quickly — either tie him down or sell on Liverpool’s terms.
