The stage is set for the 2025/26 Premier League season after the fixture list has officially been released, and Aston Villa will already be in the thick of it when they host Newcastle.

But Villa may not be all that concerned during the lunchtime clash come 16 August to kick-start the new campaign if recent history is anything to go by.

The last time Eddie Howe's Magpies came to B6, Villa booked a huge three points on 19 April that sent the visitors packing back to Tyneside.

An opening strike from star striker Ollie Watkins got the ball rolling less than a minute into the action before Fabian Schär netted the equaliser before the 20th-minute mark.

Parity would not stand, however, as Villa roared back for three goals after the interval through Ian Maatsen, an own goal courtesy of Dan Burn, and a final nail in the coffin provided by Amadou Onana.

With so much focus surrounding the summer transfer window, Villa fans will no doubt be hopeful of a similar result in just two months time.
