Following a poor campaign in the Premier League, Chelsea have decided to sack Mauricio Pochettino and are likely set for a massive rejig in the coming summer.

A recent report from Jorge Picon has highlighted that Chelsea are following a method employed by Real Madrid’s chief scout, Juni Calafat.

Their strategy is to hunt down young footballers across the globe and they have been doing so with vigour in the last few months.

Chelsea had approached Juni Calafat

The aforementioned report reveals that Chelsea initially wanted to bring Juni Calafat, seeing his success at Real Madrid.

Indeed, a couple of seasons ago, the Premier League giants had offered Calafat a ‘galactic offer’, in an attempt to lure him to London.

Chelsea wanted Calafat to take charge of the club’s transfer policy and build a core of young footballers who can become the face of the club in the years to come.

However, the Real Madrid chief scout refused the offer, citing his love for Real Madrid and life in Spain.

The imitation game

Having failed to bring Calafat on board, the report argues that Chelsea are now simply mirroring his transfer strategy.

That is why the Blues have made certain transactions that fall in line with what Real Madrid have done in recent years.

Chelsea notably signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City – a transfer that has worked out incredibly well.

They have also brought in Angelo and Deivid Washington from Brazil while the club are on the verge of securing a deal for super-talent Estevao, who was targeted by both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea’s new strategy bears fruit in the long run, but Calafat, for his part, is set to continue at Real Madrid in the years to come.
