Real Madrid could be on the verge of pocketing a significant sum this summer, thanks to former academy star Miguel Gutierrez.

According to AS, it appears that the left-back is currently one of the most sought-after players in the European transfer market, and a move away from Girona seems increasingly likely.

It must be noted that Gutierrez joined Girona in 2022 for just €5 million, but Real Madrid cleverly included a 50% sell-on clause in the deal. This means Los Blancos still own half of his rights.

If Girona decide to sell the defender this summer, Real Madrid will either have the option to bring him back or receive 50% of the transfer fee if they choose not to exercise their buy-back rights.

Italian giants showing interest

Gutierrez is currently valued at around €20 million, and his name is generating a lot of buzz, especially in Italy. Both Napoli and AC Milan have shown serious interest in securing his services.

They are confident in his recovery after he underwent ankle surgery on July 10, a procedure aimed at resolving discomfort he carried throughout last season.

Despite his current injury, clubs are lining up with offers, and Girona are well aware that selling Gutierrez could lead to one of the biggest deals of their summer.

From the beginning of the window, it was expected that he would be at the centre of a major transfer, and now it seems just a matter of time.

The full-back, who grew up in Real Madrid’s youth academy, is not currently part of Girona’s pre-season as he continues his recovery process. However, that has not stopped clubs from pursuing him, knowing his long-term potential is too good to ignore.

For Real Madrid, this situation is a win-win. If Gutierrez stays, they keep an eye on his development.

However, if he leaves, they stand to earn a substantial financial boost, with half of the transfer fee heading straight to the Santiago Bernabeu.
