Real Betis chief confirms Tottenham star’s signing is a ‘remote option’ | OneFootball

Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has hinted that the club are interested in a summer reunion with a former member of the club’s midfield ranks.

The player in question? Giovani Lo Celso.

The brass at the Estadio Benito Villamarín are aware that they may be forced to dip into the market for attack-minded midfield reinforcements with a view to next season.

This comes amid ongoing speculation linking Nabil Fekir with a Betis exit.

Frenchman Fekir was hotly tipped for a move to Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window, with interest in his signature expected to reemerge in force over the months ahead.

And, in the case of a sale, Manuel Pellegrini and co. consider the aforementioned Lo Celso as the ideal replacement.

Argentine international Lo Celso is fresh off another largely underwhelming campaign in the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur.

Back in 2018, though, the 28-year-old dazzled across a short-lived stint on loan with none other than Betis.

Speaking to the media, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when Lo Celso’s name was put to the aforementioned Manu Fajardo.

And, in his response, the Verdiblancos chief hinted that though the club are indeed interested, any deal with Spurs would prove a difficult one to pull off:

“Today, as you know, he is a Tottenham player. He has a valid contract and we owe him respect. He is a high-level player, with a past in green and white. He left very good memories, but today he is still a remote option for Betis.”
