Roma will hope to inflict Bayer Leverkusen with their first defeat of the season and take an advantage in the tie when they meet each other tonight at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma proved to be good value in the run-up to the Europa League semis as they dismantled league counterparts Milan 3-1 over the two legs in the quarter-finals. Despite Zeki Celike’s red card in the second leg, the Giallorossi coasted through thanks to goals from Gianluca Mancini and Paulo Dybala as Matteo Gabbia’s 85th-minute consolation could not muster a Milan comeback. Daniele De Rossi’s hopes for a top-four finish seem to be fading as the 3-1 loss to Bologna increased between these two sides in the standing. They face a major threat from Atalanta and Lazio for a fifth-place finish but they can attain that with a bit of foresight.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run throughout the season faced peril in each of their last three games across all competitions. However, they did manage to secure draws against West Ham, Dortmund and Stuttgart to keep their formidable form going. After securing the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history, Xabi Alonso hopes to do the treble this season by clinching the Europa League and the DFB Pokal. The Werkself have not been in the best of forms in their previous few outings but it is difficult to imagine them losing now.
