Birmingham City forward Lucy Quinn says that she is pleased to have contributed both goals and assists to the team in the opening weeks of the season.

The 31-year-old has today collected the Barclays Women’s Championship’s Player of the Month award for her performances in the month of September.

Quinn had an excellent month for the Blues. She was involved in four of Birmingham City’s nine goals, scoring twice and assisting twice. Speaking exclusively to WSL Full-Time after picking up the award, Quinn said that she was pleased with her contribution in the opening month of the season.

“I am [really pleased],” Quinn said. “I’d like to contribute to more [goals] to be honest and score more myself but it’s really good for me personally because that’s definitely what I want to be bringing to the team.

“I don’t just want to score, I do really enjoy crosses and corners and setting people up. I’ve been really happy with that.”

Birmingham City kicked-off the new campaign with an excellent 5-0 victory over Sunderland at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park before adding four more points to their tally by the end of September. Quinn was pleased to see the hard work on the training ground come to fruition on matchday.

She said “I was really happy with it to be honest. You want the perfect start but it’s not that easy to achieve, so it was really good that we managed to transfer the stuff that we were doing in pre-season on the training pitch into a really strong performance [against Sunderland] on the opening day of the season. There were lots of goals which was really good.

“We have managed to keep picking up points, so we are really happy with that but we are perfectionists I’d say, so there’s lots more to do.”

Birmingham City’s nine September goals were shared across seven different players and Quinn believes that this can help strengthen the club’s promotion push.

She said “That forward unit is just frightening. When you look at the quality and diversity of player that we’ve got, I’m just really enjoying being a part of it.

“I’ve always said that if you’re a team that is going to really push for a league, you can’t be relying on the same player to score the goals. That’s crucial if we really want success across the whole of the season.

“I still feel like there are more connections and goals to come from us as a unit.”

Birmingham City have built on their September results by recording back-to-back league wins in early October. The Blues travel to Southampton this weekend as the Barclays Women’s Championship’s early leaders.
