Pachuca meets FC Salzburg in Club World Cup

MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues as 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup winners CF Pachuca take on FC Salzburg in Group H on Wednesday at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
The meeting will mark the first time the teams play each other. It will mark the first appearance by an Austrian club in the tournament.
The Mexican side made five appearances under the previous format. Its best finish came in third place at the 2017 edition.
The Tuzos had success in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup last December, reaching the final against Real Madrid to finish runners-up.
Salomón Rondón and Oussama Idrissi are the players to watch in attack for Pachuca. Rondón finished the Liga MX season with 15 goals and five assists on 102 attempted shots. Idrissi led the team with the most chances created, with 69.
FC Salzburg qualified for the competition as the ninth-best eligible team in the UEFA 4-year ranking. The club has won the Austrian Bundesliga ten seasons in a row, from 2013-14 to 2022-23, but finished runners-up in the last two campaigns.
Dorgeles Nene was key for Salzburg with 13 goals and four assists in the season. From the start of April until the end of the campaign, he scored the most goals (8) and had the most shots (30) of any player in the division.

● Pachuca and RB Salzburg are meeting for the first time in a competitive match. It’s also the first appearance by an Austrian club at the FIFA Club World Cup, including the previous format of the competition.
● Pachuca made five appearances under the previous FIFA Club World Cup format, the joint-most for a Mexican club alongside Monterrey. Their best performance came in the 2024 edition, when they beaten finalists against Real Madrid (0-3).

● No player created more chances in open play in the 2024-25 Liga MX campaign than Pachuca’s Oussama Idrissi (69), while he also created the most chances following a ball carry (40).
● Across the 2024-25 Liga MX campaign, Salomón Rondón was involved in more goals than any other Pachuca player (15 goals, 5 assists), while he attempted 102 shots – none of his teammates had more than 48.
● Only two players had a hand in more Austrian Bundesliga goals in 2024-25 than RB Salzburg’s Dorgeles Nene (13 goals, 4 assists).
