VfB Stuttgart have completed the sale of young defender Anrie Chase to RB Salzburg. The 21-year-old departs his Bundesliga outfit permanently and signs a four-year-deal with the Austrian Red Bulls. Kicker reports that Stuttgart have secured a €2m fee for the Japanese U23 international. Chase serves as Stuttgart’s fourth sale of the summer.
The deal to send Chase to the Austrian Bundesliga nearly fell through earlier this summer due to a failed medical. In a club released statement, Salzburg’s German sporting director Rouven Schröder (formerly of Mainz, Schalke, and RB Leipzig) explained that his current club felt confident that Chase would bounce back sufficiently from the muscle fiber tear that sidelined him last spring.
Schröder also declared himself pleased that Salzburg had prevailed in the pursuit of Chase despite “considerable competition”. VfB board-member-for-sport wished the young talent well in his own statement. Chase only just made his professional debut last season. He moved to the capital of Baden-Württemberg from his native Japan in 2022.
“Anrie has made a remarkable journey with us from the youth team to the DFB Cup, the Bundesliga, and the Champions League,” Wohlgemuth noted. “With great diligence and a willingness to learn, Anrie has earned this chance. We thank him for his time with us and wish him all the best and every success for the future.”
