Napoli defeated local rivals Salernitana with a comfortable win at the Arechi stadium.
Here’s what went down.
Scorers: Di Lorenzo 45+3, Osimhen 48′
Napoli consolidated their status at the top of the league with a 2-0 win in rain-soaked Salerno.
Salernitana had forced a big early save from Alex Meret when Krzysztof Piątek shot fiercely towards the Napoli goalkeeper with a shot from a tight angle.
Yet it was predictably the visitors who went closest early on with striker Victor Osimhen in devastating form. The Nigeria was unlucky not to have scored when he had a goal ruled out for offside just after the half-hour mark by the tightest of possible margins.
Napoli took the lead on the stroke of half-time when André-Frank Zambo Anguissa delivered a lovely pull-back in the box for Giovanni Di Lorenzo to deliver a simple finish.
Just after the break, Elif Elmas hit the post with a shot from distance, and Osimhen was quickest to react as he netted the rebound.
With eight minutes to go, Meret diverted a shot from Piątek onto one post, only for the ball to roll along the goal line and hit the other.
