Only Massimiliano Allegri and Pep Guardiola have eliminated Carlo Ancelotti from the Champions League semifinals in the last ten years, while Sir Alex Ferguson and Frank Rijkaard did it previously.

Carlo Ancelotti qualified for his sixth Champions League Final on Wednesday after beating Bayern Munich 2-1 in an epic second-leg semifinal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Italian tactician has been involved in ten semifinals in his coaching career and has been beaten only four times. His most recent defeats in this stage of the competition came last season, when his Real Madrid side lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and in 2014-15, when Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus progressed to the Final after a 3-2 aggregate win.

In the last ten years, Ancelotti has won the Champions League twice, both at Madrid. First in 2013-14 and then in 2021-22.

Ancelotti’s previous eliminations from the Champions League semis date back to 2005-06, when his Milan were beaten by Rijkaard’s Barcelona and in 1998-99 when the Italian was in charge of Juventus and lost to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Ancelotti has won the Champions League four times, more than any other coach, losing just one Final in 2004-05, when Liverpool recovered from three goals down in the second half to win the trophy on penalties in Istanbul.
