Manchester City star Phil Foden has on Friday named a headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid as the very best player whom he has faced off against this season.
City were of course sent packing from Europe last month, at the hands of none other than Carlo Ancelotti’s Real.
After the two sides could not be separated across a full 210 minutes of action in their Champions League quarter-final tie, it was the Spanish champions who held their nerve from the penalty spot, to send the reigning tournament holders out.
A whole host of Real Madrid’s stars shone bright over the course of the tie, from Federico Valverde to Rodrygo, Antonio Rüdiger and more.
It was another, however, whom the aforementioned Foden felt stood out above all others.
Speaking in an interview with the Football Writer’s Association after being named FWA Footballer of the Year on Friday, England international Foden was asked to name the finest player whom he has taken to the pitch against in 2023/24.
And the Man City standout did not hesitate in pointing towards Real’s midfield maestro, Toni Kroos.
Foden also named Ancelotti’s Blancos as the most difficult team whom he and his teammates have faced this season.
