Norwich City are preparing for a new Championship season with a new manager at the helm.

Liam Manning has taken over the Canaries after leading Bristol City to a sixth place finish in the previous campaign.

He has been tasked with improving the club’s position in the second tier, with the team having endured an underwhelming year in which they finished 13th in the table.

The 39-year-old will be keen to shape the squad to his liking this summer, with the Norfolk outfit eyeing a challenge for a top six finish in 2026.

Norwich City urged to sign a winger

When asked what one transfer demand he has for the remainder of the window, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes claimed the club must sign at least one out-and-out winger.

He believes Borja Sainz must be replaced with someone capable of goals, suggesting some added depth in that position may also be necessary.

“I think the one transfer demand that we would have is getting a winger in, minimum one winger, to replace Sainz,” Downes told Football League World.

“We’re very light on the wings at the moment, we’ve only got Matej Jurasek.

“That’s telling because I can’t even remember if we have any [others], I know that we’ve other players that can play out there like [Oscar] Schwartau, [Gabe] Forsyth, now [Matthias] Kvistgaarden.

“We’ve only really got players that are utility players, so we need out-and-out wingers, we need one or two, preferably two, proper wingers that will get down the line, put some crosses in, but also be able to score goals and replace Sainz as much as we can.

“And that’s easily the most important thing now because we’ve obviously lost a lot of his output.

“We’ve been able to add depth in goal, in defence, in midfield, so in the attacking areas that’s where we now need to find one or two more I think to fill those spaces.”

Norwich will start the new season with a home clash against Millwall on 9 August.

Norwich need goals to replace Sainz

Sainz was a massive player for Norwich last season, contributing 18 goals and four assists.

His departure is a big blow, especially with Josh Sargent also potentially heading for the exit door.

That is a lot of goals to lose in one summer, and someone will need to be signed that has a proven track record at this level in order to make up for it.

Otherwise, Manning will be asking a lot of his current squad for them to step up in Sainz’s absence.
