Sevilla are now interested in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Over in Spain, AS report that Newcastle United have informed clubs that they are willing to loan out the 31 year old keeper and that the La Liga club are considering a move for him.
The Spanish media outlet state that Odysseas Vlachodimos has already rejected an offer from Pumas de Mexico (Club Universidad Nacional), hoping to find a more suitable option.
Odysseas Vlachodimos joined United for £20m from Nottingham Forest on 30 June 2024 in a PSR double deal that helped ensure both Forest and Newcastle didn’t break the three year limit on losses, Elliot Anderson going the other way for £35m.
Forest benefited from taking one of Newcastle’s brightest prospects in the Geordie midfielder, who is now worth at least that inflated PSR 2024 transfer fee and is a first choice player for them.
Newcastle though were forced in the end, just to simply stay within PSR limits, to clearly take a player at a vastly inflated PSR transfer fee who they didn’t want.
The only first team appearance that Odysseas Vlachodimos made for Newcastle United last season was as a replacement for an injured Martin Dubravka in the Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon.
Odysseas Vlachodimos was still undisputed number one for Greece despite making only a handful of Premier League starts in his one season at Nottingham Forest. However, as time went on without any starts at all for Newcastle, Vlachodimos then lost his place for Greece.
It is a big fall for a goalkeeper who as well as playing for Greece, was also first choice for Benfica and playing in the Champions League.
A move to La Liga could give him the platform and profile to force his way back into the team for his national side.
Sevilla finished only one point and one place above the relegation zone last season and they are considering Odysseas Vlachodimos as one of their options to try and see a big improvement this coming season and no relegation worries.
However, AS report that what could decide whether or not Odysseas Vlachodimos signs for Sevilla, is how much of the keeper’s wages Newcastle United are prepared to pay if he goes on loan at the La Liga club.
